  • At 10th/11th of November 2016 the second colloquium „Cavitation and cavitation erosion“ takes place, which is hosted collaboratively by the chairs “Hydraulische Strömungsmaschinen” (HSM, RUB), “Werkstoffprüfung” (WP, RUB) and “Schiffstechnik, Meerestechnik, Transportsysteme" (ISMT, Universität Duisburg-Essen).
    - 1st colloquium “Cavitation und cavitation erosion” in Bochum at 8th/9th of December 2014,
    - 2nd colloquium “Cavitation und cavitation erosion” in Mülheim at 10th/11th of November 2016.
    The colloquium is directed at representatives from research and teaching as well as from industry. Both students, doctoral candidates and scientists from research and teaching as well as researchers, developers and operators from industry are cordially invited.

  • Cooperation project with successful outcome: The completed MERCUR-research project „Kompressible 3D/1D Strömungssimulationsmethode zur Kopplung von hydraulischer Maschine und ihrer Anlage“ in close cooperation of HSM with the area of expertise "Fluidtechnik" of TU Dortmund resulted in a shared publication in the learned journal "Computers&Fluids": Linkamp, A., Deimel, C., Brümmer, A., Skoda.   • This winter semester the HSM offers the lectures Turbulenzmodellierung and Gasdynamik as well as the specialist laboratories "Messung der Druckverteilung am NACA-Profil" and "KFZ-Aerodynamik". They can be found at Vorlesungen and Fachlabore, respectively (German only).

September 2016

  • Since 1st of September 2016 HSM has started working, in cooperation with the chair "Strömungsmechanik und Strömungstechnik" (Prof. Thévenin) of the Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg, on research of “Mehrphasenströmungen in Kreiselpumpen“. Aim of this project is the improvement and validation of cfd-methods for the prediction of transportation of liquid-/gas mixtures also with high gas content. The 18-month research project is supported by "Forschungskuratorium Maschinenbau e.V.".
  • The chair has presented two publications at the 3rd International Rotating Equipment Conference (IREC) in Düsseldorf from 14th to 15th September: T. Müller and R. Skoda, "3D Liquid-Gas Flow Simulations of a Radial Pump with an Eulerian Mono-Dispersed Two-Phase Model." as well as P. Limbach and R. Skoda, "Numerical simulation and experimental validation for the NPSH prediction of a low specific speed centrifugal pump with a variation of cavitation model mass transfer parameters.".

  • Publication in the journal ‚Experiments in Fluids‘: the manuscript Combined density gradient and velocity field measurements in transient flows by means of Differential Interferometry and Long-range µPIV“ by S. Kordel, T. Nowak, R. Skoda and J. Hussong was accepted after a peer-review process.

  • Publication in the journal 'Ultrasonics Sonochemistry' accepted: The manuscript „Numerical 3D flow simulation of ultrasonic horns with attached cavitation structures and assessment of flow aggressiveness and cavitation erosion sensitive wall zones“ by S.Mottyll and R.Skoda was accepted (Impact Factor 4.32) after a peer-review process.
